edited contact email address not updating

I created a new contact and entered an email address for it and then realized the email was incorrect. Then I edited the contact with the corrected email address and saved the changes. Then I tried to add that contact to a group I created for myself. When I typed the name it pulled up the right contact with the wrong email address.
